List of Hazards that the public may encounter with full access to
the range floor at Ash ranges including Henley Park and Stoney
Castle ranges.
1. Falls from heights (Markers gallery 2-3m fall onto hard surface and metal frames)
2. Razor wire (erected around range sheds to prevent theft and public going on the roof as
they are fragile)
3. Electric Shock (ETR ranges have high voltage to operate the target mechanisms)
4. Gun shot (if they don’t leave the area by the allotted time) Staff can’t inspect all the
wooded areas to ensure they are clear and if the public don’t want to be seen, there are
plenty of areas to hide.
5. Cuts and abrasions (from all manner of sharp object that are common on the range) Hythe
frames, Aluminium targets, Steel I beam, Razor wire etc.
6. Falling into fire trenches
7. Lead and bullet debris in the sand
8. Range floors and technical areas are still active with work when flags are down, large 360
excavators and dumper trucks carrying out de leading
9. Risk to soldiers, clubs and staff: Dog mess not being removed, when it is removed the
bags are left on site for staff to clear!
10. RTCs (staff using vehicles on the road for normal work, young children and dogs are
running about, adults with push chairs etc.)
