Antidepressant use in children

The request was successful.

Dear Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency,

In Dec 2003 MHRA issued the conclusions of a safety review into SSRI usage in children

Please can you advise me

1)Has this advice been updated since 2003

2)How many children (under 18's) have been prescribed SSRI's each year in the intervening 9 years.

Your advice in 2003 was that

"The CSM Expert Group has delivered comprehensive advice on the use of these drugs in children and young people following a thorough review of all the evidence available. This gives parents, young people and those who treat these devastating illnesses the information they need to make informed decisions about treatment."

3)How is this advice given to the children and parents concerned? especially as you also add

"It is therefore important that patients, parents and doctors are aware of the new advice.".

4)What advice is available for parents and children today and how is it given to them?

Yours faithfully,

Kate Masters
