Dear Alex,

Re: Request for Information - Training budgets - Reference Number:
CHS/8SMGM9

Thank you for your request for information, which was received by
Manchester City Council on 22 March 2012 and has been considered under the
provisions of the Freedom of Information Act 2000. I apologise for the
delay to our response.

You asked:

1. Please can you provide me with the total annual training budget for
Children’s and Young People’s Social Services for the financial years:
a) 2009 -2010
b) 2010 -2011
c) 2011 -2012
d) 2012 -2013

2. For each year could you also provide me with:
a) Administration costs of running the training programme?
b) How much was spent on training and which courses were
commissioned?
c) How much was spent on e-learning and which courses were
commissioned?

Points 1 and 2(a): In response to your request, I have summarised the
information in the attached spreadsheet.

(See attached file: CHS_8SMGM9_FoI_Spreadsheet_FINAL.xls)
Points 2(b) and 2(c): In order to provide details for points (b) and (c)
would require officers to study records for each course over the five years
to ascertain whether it was commissioned externally or provided in-house.
It is estimated that the statutory cost limit of £450 (which is calculated
as being approximately 2.5 days of a council officer's time to determine
whether the Council holds the information, locate, retrieve and extract the
information) would be exceeded if the Council supplied the requested
information to you. FOIA does not oblige us to comply with requests that
exceed this amount.
