Dear Caroline,
I write further to your FOI request below regarding animals being used in
non-regulatory procedures. I confirm we have considered your request and
do require further clarification from you to enable us to respond:
1. Please can you confirm what you mean by ‘non-regulated’ procedures? Do
you mean Non-regulated procedures covered under the Animals
(Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 (ASPA)?
2. Are you seeking information on ‘animals’ including invertebrates?
Any further detail would really help us give you an accurate and
comprehensive answer to your question.
I am sorry that this may delay your enquiry however we will attempt to
answer it as soon as possible after we have received your
clarification. But as prescribed by Section 1(3) of the FOIA, a request is
not valid unless there is sufficient detail supplied to enable
identification and location of the information sought.
Your request will not be processed further until we hear from you. If we
do not hear from you within 2 months from the date of this notification,
we will assume you are no longer interested in the processing of your
request, and will close your request file.
We look forward to hearing further from you.
Kind Regards
Danielle Pyper, Information Rights Manager

Dear Freedom-of-Information,
Thank you for asking me to clarify what I am asking for, I am seeking information about any procedures undertaken on animals that fall outside those defined in the 1986 ASPA and its amendments at the university and are not subject to the project licences required for regulated procedures.
I am seeking information on all species including vertebrate.
Yours sincerely,
caroline betts
Hi Caroline,
I am afraid I still need a little more detail from you to supply you with
the information you seek, are you:
1- Only seeking data about any procedures undertaken on animals that fall
outside those defined in the 1986 ASPA and its amendments at the
university and are not subject to the project licences required for
regulated procedures, and therefore not seeking data about animas that do
fall inside the definitions set out in the 1986 ASPA and its amendments?
2- Seeking information on ‘animals’ including invertebrates? Our concern
is supplying you with data relating to invertebrates ( e.g. worms and
flies) which fall outside the remit of the 1986 ASPA and aren't
vertebrates.
I am very happy to talk the query through with you if that would help.
