Dear Hartpury College,

I am asking to request specific information regarding your animal sciences course. It has been noted on Animal Laboratories in Universities list, in 2010 that you have an animal laboratory in the Animal Sciences Centre at Hartpury college.

As the Government states:

"You should get the information within 20 working days. The organisation will tell you when to expect the information if they need more time."

I would like the information requested, answered via electronic copies, sent back to this e-mail address.

I would like to know:

1) Do you conduct animal research (namely vivisection) on site at Hartpury College?
2) Which species do you conduct research on?
3) Your Animal Sciences course description states "On this programme, you’ll gain a wide range of skills and knowledge through unique learning opportunities on our specialist campus, including dissections..." Are they living at the time of the dissection?
4) Is anaesthetic used?
5) If the animal you are dissecting is not living at the time of the dissection, in what way are they euthanized beforehand?
6) Where are the animals sourced from? Which reputable breeders do you use? I.e. Envigo (including Harlan), Sequani, Charles River.
7) In what way are students trained in that they can go on to work in animal research laboratories, as your course description suggests?
8) How many animals are used in research per annum at Hartpury College, from statistics as far back as are obtainable?
9) How many animals were euthanized following research conducted at Hartpury College per annum, from statistics as far back as are obtainable?
10) For which purposes are animals used in research? I.e. biological, medical, chemical.
11) In what way are healthy animals used in research to train veterinary studies? How are they sourced? In what ways are they made unhealthy in order to be subjects for veterinary training?

Yours faithfully,

Charles Johnson
