Animal culling

Tom Little made this Freedom of Information request to Cumbria County Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Cumbria County Council,

This FoI is in relation to the culling of animals.

Please provide details on the following:

1) How many animal culls have been authorised, organised, or carried out by your organisation or on its behalf in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017? This includes activities labelled ‘management’ such as 'deer management' where hunting and culling is involved.

2) If they have been carried out, what animals were culled, what was the purpose, and how many were culled?

3) If they have been carried out, what is the process of deciding whether action is taken, and who would be consulted prior to this?

Yours faithfully,

Tom Little

Dear Information Governance,

Does this mean that:
a) You do not know whether any animal culls were carried out on behalf of your organisation in the years mentioned?
b) No animal culls were carried out by your organisation in the years mentioned?

I understand the function of APHA within the county but am trying to ascertain whether any animal culls were carried out or instructed by Cumbria County Council.

For example, culls of wild rabbits were carried out on behalf of Allerdale Borough Council on land it owned this year.

Yours sincerely,

Tom Little

Information Governance, Cumbria County Council

I can confirm that Cumbria County Council has never carried out or instructed another organisation to cull any animals.

Regards
