Amount of failed asylum seekers / immigrants

Waiting for an internal review by Home Office of their handling of this request.

Dear Home Office,

Please could you detail the amount of asylum seekers / refugees that have failed the initial application, that are still in the UK, whether illegally, or under appeal currently.

Please also detail the total number asylum seeker / refugee applications in 2014 and 2015.

Can I then assume, or could you detail the amount of successful applications in 2014 and 2015.
Yours faithfully,

Marty

Dear FOI Responses,

The reply is ridiculous.

They say that they are refusing because a name wasn't supplied, yet they start the letter of reply with "Dear Marty"

Please investigate and send the information required by law!

Yours sincerely,

Marty

FOI Requests, Home Office

Dear Marty,

Thank you for your email of 07/10/2015, in which you object to the Home Office’s refusal to process your FOI request citing section 8(1) of the FOI Act.

Guidance by the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) on section 8 can be found at this link - https://ico.org.uk/media/for-organisatio...

We would draw your attention to the following paragraphs of the guidance:

14. A requester can be an individual, a company or an organisation, but in each case section 8(1)(b) requires that a request for information must include the name of the requester.

15. In our view, the intention of the legislation is for the requester to provide their real name so their request could be processed in accordance with the requirements of the FOIA.

21. For a request to be valid, the requester must provide enough of their real name to give anyone reading that request a reasonable indication of their identity.
22. This means that if the staff processing the request cannot identify the requester from the name provided, that request will be invalid.
25. Any variation of the requester’s title or first name combined with their surname (e.g. Mr Smith or John Smith) will be sufficient to meet this requirement. However, a first name or surname provided in isolation, or a set of initials, will not.

Please also be aware that the ICO considers that, where a public authority does elect to comply with an invalid request, the requester will have no recourse to make a complaint to the Information Commissioner.

Yours Sincerely

A Callaghan
