Dear Sir,

In response to your request, 11 December 2019,  under the Freedom of
Information (Scotland) Act 2002, I can advise you of the following: -

Inverclyde Council own one site utilised as allotments at Wellington
Street, Greenock; the site is, and has for many years, been run and
managed by the Wellington Allotments Garden Association.

In addition to the above, the other known allotment sites in the area are
Caddlehill Allotments and Gardens, Kelly Street, Greenock; Branching Out,
Parklea Playing Fields, Port Glasgow – it should be noted however that
this site is not open to the general public but is used to help to develop
local individuals with support needs, learning/physical disabilities,
mental health problems.

The Wellington Street site consists of  35 allotment plots but 3 plots
have 2 people sharing.

Consequently, there are 38 registered names at the Wellington Street site;
I have no information with regards to the privately owned Caddlehill
Allotments and Gardens site.

With reference to the Wellington Street site, in August 2018, there were 8
people on the waiting list; 5 subsequently changed their minds or got a
plot elsewhere – of the three remaining 2 were allocated plots and 1 is
still on the waiting list (only applied in August 2018).

In September 2019, there were 14 people on the waiting list most applying
between May and August 2019 – 2 have since taken their names off,
therefore 12 remain.

In February 2020, 7 people will be offered a raised bed only because 4 new
ones have been created to meet demand – consequently that will leave only
5 people on the waiting list.

Only 1 name has been carried over from August 2018 to this year.

According to the Associations’ records no one has waited more than 2
years.

Because of GDPR no names, contact details are kept after coming off the
waiting list, for whatever reason.

I trust the above is of some assistance to you.

If you are dissatisfied with the way the Council dealt with your request,
you are entitled to require the Council to review its decision. A copy of
the Council’s Review Procedure is attached for your information.

Regards,

Stuart Anderson
