Alleged Campaigns

Jaki Parsons made this Freedom of Information request to London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council

This request has been closed to new correspondence from the public body. Contact us if you think it ought be re-opened.

The request was successful.

Dear Barking & Dagenham Borough Council,

Dear sir or madam,

During 2009, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) claimed that two related campaigns were being conducted.

1. A campaign to vilify Graham Badman, author of a report into
home education.

2. A campaign to inundate the DCSF with Freedom of Information
requests.

Recent comments by a senior official in the DCSF suggested that these alleged campaigns might have spread to include local authorities.

I would like you to provide me with the following information.

First, please confirm whether or not you have observed these alleged campaigns.

Second, please confirm whether or not you have exchanged any correspondence with the DCSF regarding these alleged campaigns.

Finally, if you have exchanged correspondence with the DCSF on this issue then please provide me with copies of that correspondence.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Jaki Parsons

Clist Julie, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council

Then why does it depend on the Cllr returning from leave until the request can be answered

Baker Robert, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Council

Dear Jaki Parsons

Request for information LBBD / 43210

Your request for information about Graham Badman's report into home
education has now been considered and the information is show.

During 2009, the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF)
claimed that two related campaigns were being conducted.

1. A campaign to vilify Graham Badman, author of a report into home
education.

2. A campaign to inundate the DCSF with Freedom of Information
requests.

Recent comments by a senior official in the DCSF suggested that these
alleged campaigns might have spread to include local authorities.

I would like you to provide me with the following information.

First, please confirm whether or not you have observed these alleged
campaigns.

The Department has received a higher number of requests than usual for
statistical information on Education Otherwise than at School (Elective
Home Education). These requests have taken a great deal of officer time.
They have been answered to the best of our ability, although some of them
appeared to require similar data one to another. We cannot comment on
whether the various requests amounted to a campaign.

Second, please confirm whether or not you have exchanged any
correspondence with the DCSF regarding these alleged campaigns.

We have had no exchange of correspondence with the DCSF on the topic of an
alleged campaign.

Finally, if you have exchanged correspondence with the DCSF on this issue
then please provide me with copies of that correspondence.

For the above reason it is not possible to provide copies of any
correspondence.

If you need any more information, or if I can be of any further help,
please contact me.

If you are not satisfied with the way that I have dealt with your request
you can make a complaint by writing to the Corporate Complaints & FOI
Team, Room 104, Town Hall, 1 Town Square, Barking IG11 7HE. Alternatively
you can make your complaint on-line at [1]www.barking-dagenham.gov.uk or
you can e-mail your complaint to [2][Barking & Dagenham Borough Council request email].

If you are still not satisfied, after following our Corporate Complaints
procedure, you can take your complaint to the Information Commissioner.
Full details of how to do this will be made available on request.

Yours sincerely
