Allegations of domestic abuse and sexual misconduct against serving police officers

The request was successful.

Dear FOI Team,

I write to request the number of allegations of domestic abuse and sexual misconduct (including rape) made against serving police officers between January 2017 and June 2022.

As part of this, I would like the information to be broken down into the following:

i) The number of allegations of domestic abuse and sexual misconduct, (including rape) made against serving police officers each year – from January 2017 to June 2022, including a grand total;

ii) The sex and gender of each officer against whom an allegation was made;

iii) The number of allegations that were upheld and resulted in disciplinary action – including dismissal, and the number of allegations that were discontinued;

iv) The number of officers against whom allegations were made are still serving police officers.

Please provide the information in Excel format.

Yours faithfully,

Oliver Murphy

London, you have a problem with women: trust towards the police in England

17/4/24

'Using a survey of multiple waves of over 8000 combined respondents conducted from July 2022 to September 2023, we find that in the parts of England outside of London, only 44% of women trust the police. p1

Data and methodology

We asked our respondents how much they trusted the police on a seven-point scale, where 1 means ‘not at all’ and 7 means ‘completely’. YouGov were commissioned to perform a series of surveys. Data were gathered in 15 monthly waves, from July 2022 to September 2023. Respondents were exclusively from England; other parts of the UK were not included in this analysis. p7

Our findings place a further perspective on the findings in the Casey review and suggest that the problem is much more substantial. p13
