Dear Mr Alexander,

Freedom of Information request F17-121

Thank you for your request for information as copied below. You asked
three questions about alcohol sales at House of Commons catering venues
for the past 5 years, which we have sought to answer below.

1)  Can you please let me know the total amount spent on alcohol at each
of the bars/restaurants at the House of Commons for the past five years.

2)  Can you break down how much was spent on wine, beer/lager, cider,
spirits, champagne at each of the bars/restaurants.

3)  Can you provide figures for the past five years, or if this is not
possible within the restrictions, please provide figures for the past
three years, or if not possible, the past two years.

Information on alcohol sales is held by the House of Commons for 2016/17
and the previous 3 financial years. Please find this data attached.

Detailed sales figures for any years prior to this have been destroyed in
accordance with Parliament’s records disposal policy. However, it may help
you to know that some alcohol sales figures for other years have been
published on our disclosures pages here:
[1]http://www.parliament.uk/site-informatio....
For example, total alcohol sales in each of the House of Commons bars
between 2010/11 and 2013/14 are available here:
[2]http://www.parliament.uk/site-informatio....

Please also note that the customers who use these venues include around
15,500 pass-holders (MPs’ staff, House staff, civil servants, contractors,
Peers, members of the Press Gallery, etc., as well as MPs). The customer
base also includes over a million non-pass holding visitors to Parliament.
Food and drink prices are regularly reviewed and set at levels benchmarked
against similar outlets outside of Parliament.

You may, if dissatisfied with the handling of your request, complain to
the House of Commons. Alternatively, if you are dissatisfied with the
outcome of your request you may ask the House of Commons to conduct an
internal review of any decision regarding your request. Complaints or
requests for internal review should be addressed to: Information Rights
and Information Security Service, Research & Information Team, House of
Commons, London SW1A 0AA or [3][House of Commons request email]. Please ensure
that you specify the full reasons for your complaint or internal review
along with any arguments or points that you wish to make.

If you remain dissatisfied, you may appeal to the Information Commissioner
at Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire SK9 5AF,
[4]www.ico.gov.uk.

Yours sincerely,

Lauren
