Airdrie health centre

We're waiting for Emma to read recent responses and update the status.

Dear Lanarkshire NHS Board,

Why in summer did you implicate a COVID testing hub in the middle (2nd) floor of a very busy health centre in Airdrie, with zero precautions for the staff and patients utilising the building. For over 2 months people where coming and going using a single entrance exit and sharing corridors, lifts etc?

Can you please share under the FOI act.
1. Exactly how many suspected COVID 19 cases where tested on this site in 2020

2. How many confirmed cases resulted from these tests in 2020

3. How many deaths where a result of these tests in 2020

4. The risk assessment carried out before implicating this hub on the second floor of a very busy building.

Yours faithfully,
Em

Dear Mckay, Craig - Communications,

Ok. So with that clarity, Why was it deemed safe for both staff and patients visiting the building to use the same entrance/ stairwell/lift/corridor as the patients visiting COVID for testing?

Surely this would have been the first protocol of these so called “walk rounds”

A virus so deadly yet no written risk assessment?

Yours sincerely,

Emma

Hi Emma

As per my original response, I can only stress that the all of the inspections, walk-rounds and discussions were carried out by highly-experienced staff including infection prevention and control, medical, nursing and managerial staff. The staff worked together to identify and address any potential areas of risk. NHS Lanarkshire follows the guidance provided by the four nations in the UK for prevention and control of Covid-19 in healthcare settings. This guidance is in use in all health boards in Scotland. NHS Lanarkshire also has monitoring systems in place to help us understand compliance with control measures.

NHS Lanarkshire makes every effort to ensure our patients are protected from any type of risk as far as possible. Covid-19 has brought about numerous challenges to how we deliver services safely and our clinical and managerial staff exercise due diligence ensuring all appropriate infection, prevention and control measures are in place.

Like all health boards throughout the United Kingdom, from mid-March, unprecedented measures were put in place to reduce the number of people attending health facilities. A substantial number of patients have been, and continued to be, supported through telephone consultations and secure NHS videoconferencing facilities called Near Me.

People were also advised not to turn up at the assessment centre without an appointment. The appointment only system was part of the many precautions we implemented to reduce the risk of exposure to COVID-19 for other members of the public using the building and for our staff.

Best wishes

Craig
