Air Quality Diffusion Tube Data
Dear Royal Borough of Greenwich,
Could you please supply me with the data you hold from your air pollution diffusion tube monitoring scheme for each month from 2005 to present.
As per DEFRA, this should include Site Name, Site Code, Site Type, Ordnance Survey Code, Latitude/Longitude, Address, Height from road, Kerb Distance, Period/Month, Concentration, Status, Comments (if any), Prep Lab, Analysis Lab, Pollutant Type and all other relevent data.
I would like to see figures for all pollutants that you hold, including PM10, PM2.5, NO2, NOX and Benzene.
Thank you in advance for your help.
Yours faithfully,
Stewart Christie

Dear Mr Christie,
In relation to your Freedom of Information request logged as RFI/05789.
Due to the complexity of the Freedom of Information data requested, it has unfortunately taken longer than anticipated for us to collate the information. We sincerely apologise for the delay in responding to your request.
Attached are spread sheets for 2005 to 2012 that contain monthly NO2 concentrations measured by diffusion tube.
TUBESITES_2010a (attached) lists the diffusion tube locations. Tubes are typically attached to light stands or other street furniture at a height of approximately 2.5m. Most of the Greenwich automated Air Quality Monitoring Stations (AQMS) have diffusion tubes exposed in triplicate to enhance comparison with the chemiluminescent monitoring equipment at the stations. These tubes are mounted slightly higher at about 3m above ground.
Benzene diffusion tubes have been co-located with NO2 tubes at some of the sites. The site codes and other site information are therefore the same as for the corresponding NO2 tube. Benzene tubes are deployed at the same time as the NO2 tubes but are exposed for a shorter period, typically 2 weeks. Benzene diffusion tube data are attached. 2005-2010 presents estimated annual means. Period means are presented in Dec2011 Dec 2012. From April 2011 the number of Benzene sites was reduced to 3. In 2012 for various reasons there was significant loss of Benzene data.
Data on the other pollutants referred to in your enquiry can be freely obtained from www.londonair.org.uk.
If you are not satisfied with the response to your request you may ask for it to be reviewed. If you wish to do this, please write to Matthew Norwell, Director of Community Safety & Environment, 3rd Floor, The Woolwich Centre, 35 Wellington Street, Woolwich, London, SE18 6HQ; enclosing a copy of your original request and explaining your complaint. Please include your full name and an address for correspondence.
If you are not content with the outcome of your complaint, you may apply directly to the Information Commissioner for a decision. Generally, the ICO cannot make a decision unless you have exhausted the complaints procedure provided by the Council. The Information Commissioner can be contacted at: The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.

Yours sincerely,
