Air Conditioning Inspection Report Environmental Compliance Audit (commonly known as an ACI TM44)

Jessica Thomas made this Freedom of Information request to Adams' Grammar School

This request has been closed to new correspondence. Contact us if you think it should be reopened.

The request was successful.

Dear Adams' Grammar School,
This request relates to Environmental Legislation, specifically TM44 Air Conditioning Inspection Reporting, which is mandatory for buildings which are air conditioned above a statutory minimum size. Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government track offenders.

Q. Who is the responsible person for ensuring that your buildings are legally compliant on the TM44 mandatory environmental matter? Provide the name, position, address, email address and direct telephone number of the responsible person.
Q. All reports are mandatorily lodged on MHCLG database. No reports are currently lodged or are out of date for your School, you are therefore non-compliant. Has your Governing Body been made aware of this breach?
Q. Air Conditioning and Air Handling Systems may cause increased risk of Covid-19 spread, have you covered off the issue, along with TM44 Inspections, in any Return to Work Risk Assessments?
Q. Provide the name and email address of the Board Principal.
Q. Do you teach your Pupils about the environment?

Yours faithfully,

Jessica Thomas

Good morning, in response to the Freedom of Information request received
28th Sept 2020:-

We have only one small air conditioning unit for one building- most of our
buildings are unsuitable due to their age- and this unit has an effective
rated output for cooling of 5.9kw and heating of 7kw.  As this falls below
the 12kw rating that requires inspection as laid out in the Department for
Communities and Local Government document entitled 'Improving the energy
efficiency of our buildings- a guide to air conditioning inspections for
buildings'  we therefore do not need to comply with the TM44 inspection
reporting.  I attach a copy of the rating plate from our air conditioning
unit for your information.

We do of course take the maintenance of all our heating and ventilation
equipment on site seriously and we have a programme of scheduled
inspections and maintenance carried out on all equipment by a third party
contractor.

The building that this air conditioner is used for is currently not in use
due to COVID-19 restrictions, as it is a performing arts venue, which has
been risk assessed as not essential to the core activities of the school
during the pandemic.

Our pupils are taught the National Curriculum through Key Stages 3,4 and 5
and where there is content relating to the environment they are taught
it.  Our pupils- through the school council are also encouraged to be
proactive with environmental projects around the school site and greater
community.

I trust this information is acceptable to you.

With regards,

Jon Stork

Compliance Officer
