Dear Transport for London,

I work for arriva London Dartford and we have no air con on our buses for drivers or public, these buses get so unbearable for us drivers and public, I believe this should be working so why are we still working in theses conditions, when temperatures have been very high,

Yours faithfully, me

Dear Rosemary

Thanks for your email on 22 July about the high temperatures on buses,
which has been passed to us to answer.

I’m sorry for the discomfort you’ve described.

All of our double deck buses have air cooling, not air conditioning, as it
would create much higher vehicle exhaust emissions. To make buses cooler,
we have white reflective roofs and tinted windows to reduce solar gain,
and insulation around the engine, and sometimes in the roof void. Buses
are fitted with opening windows to improve air flow and add a cool breeze.

If you feel that a bus has a fault with the air cooling system, you may
wish to report the registration number to your engineering team to be
looked into.

Thanks again for contacting us. If there is anything else we can help you
with, please reply to this email. Alternatively, you can call us on 0343
222 1234 and we'll be happy to help you.

Kind regards
