Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Please see https://questions-statements.parliament....

The written answer refers to appropriate safeguards and the adherence to internal monitoring protocols: "Where Artificial Intelligence is used to assist its activities in prevention and detection of fraud within UC applications, DWP always ensures appropriate safeguards are in place for the proportionate, ethical, and legal use of data with internal monitoring protocols adhered to. Through the work of departmental governance, we can always explain how the AI reaches conclusions using data."

Please provide the internal monitoring protocols and, if these are separate from the protocols, information about the 'safeguards' referred to.

Yours faithfully,

Owen Stevens

Dear Owen Stevens,

I am writing in response to your request for information, received 25th
October.

Yours sincerely,

DWP Central FoI Team

Dear Department for Work and Pensions,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Department for Work and Pensions's handling of my FOI request 'AI internal monitoring protocols'.

The information is not already in the public domain. You have directed me to documents which refer to the requested information. Those documents do not contain the requested information.

DWP's response appears to be a repeat of the approach taken in FOI 2022/87843 - to claim that the information is available because documents referring to the requested information is available. DWP's approach to s.21 was rejected in the ICO decision notice IC-223724-B8Q1, and DWP has since provided the requested information.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/a...

Yours faithfully,

Owen Stevens
