Dear Ceredigion Council,
In terms of the Freedom of Information Act of 2000, could you please provide me with the following information for each of the last five years (i.e. 2011 to 2015):
- Total number of business premises in your local authority
- Total number of empty business premises in your local authority
- Total number of empty business premises affected by each of (as a direct consequence of their being empty):
+ Criminal activity
+ Squatting
+ Damage
- Where possible, total value in GBP of the theft or damage to empty business premises by each of(as a direct consequence of their being empty):
+ Criminal activity
+ Squatting
+ Damage
If the value in GBP is not known, then please provide the balance of data requested.
While such data series are often published by local authorities, I have undertaken a thorough search of your website and have not found these. If they are available, as requested, then please - in terms of Section 21 of the act - could you provide a link to the page where the data are published, as well as guidance on the update frequency.
Please provide this as machine-readable as either a CSV or Microsoft Excel file, capable of re-use, and under terms of the Open Government Licence.

apologise in the delay in responding, however please find attached the
response for Ceredigion County Council.
I would like to draw your attention to question 1, Ceredigion County
Council does not hold the exact information you have requested, however we
attach a document prepared by the Valuation Office Agency (a Central
Government body), comprising a Statistical Analysis of Numbers and
Rateable Values of all Hereditaments for Non-Domestic Rates in Ceredigion
which we hope will be of use.

· The total amount paid by Ceredigion County Council on damage

This one is particularly fascinating. While the authority has only partial data, they indicate only one (1) incident of negligible criminal damage in an empty commercial property.
Despite this, Ceredigion Council refuses to publish empty property data and I am currently still - after three months - waiting on an internal review for that refusal.
