Dear Wirral Borough Council,

Please see the following request:

http://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/so...

Please express this by position, agency cost per hour, WBC cost per hour including all on-costs.

Please summarise what on-costs you have included.

Please state the difference in cost.

Please disclose which policy is used in using agency staff rather than attracting staff to the organisation through permanent recruitment.

Yours faithfully,

Dear Corrin, Jane,

Thank you. From your information it seems at least one agency position is costing £25.19 per hour more than if they employed by you directly.

For a 35 hour week this would equate to £881.65.

If this was paid for 48 weeks, assuming 4 weeks annual leave, this would equate to £42,319.20 in additional costs.

I find it difficult how an overspending department, part of a cash strapped local authority can justify this as value for money and best use of tax payers money when essential services are under threat.

I look forward to your upcoming policy on agency spending.

Yours sincerely,

Pete Sheffield
