Dear John Tanner

Thank you for your recent request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000. The answer to your question is as follows:

1. When was the decision taken to allow adverting on your website? Who
made that decision? Is there is record available of the decision making
process?

The decision to sign a contract with the Council Advertising Network was
made unanimously by the Corporate Committee of the District Council on 11
December 2014. The report can be viewed on p84 of the agenda here >
[1]http://www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/images...
Here are the minutes of the same meeting >
[2]http://www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/images...

2. How much revenue is generated from the advertising on your website (in
total and also per annum)?

In the first full year (2016) £1,526.26 revenue was generated for the
District Council from website advertising

In the year January-October 2017, £1,471.83 has been generated (we await
the November and December figures, but the year-on-year trend is upwards)

3. What is the advertising revenue spent on?

The revenue goes into the council’s Communications & Marketing budget to
support annual projects approved by councillors. Recent examples have
included the redesign of the official [3]www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk
website to make the navigation more intuitive for users and to make it
mobile friendly (well over half of users now access the site using either
a mobile phone or tablet). Another current project funded from the same
budget is to replace signage across the Derbyshire Dales, including border
‘welcome’ signs that are now tatty and do not give a good impression to
people who visit the Derbyshire Dales or live here. Signage is also to be
improved at our Town Hall HQ and in our parks and gardens, featuring new
information (such as web links and QR codes) that link residents and
visitors to online details about the parks themselves and the 24/7 digital
services we provide.
