Adults with Aspergers needing support with OCD
Dear South West Essex Primary Care Trust (PCT),
Please supply any information that you hold regarding diagnosis and support for those with Aspergers with co-morbid OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) (which may be severely restricting and negatively impacting on the quality of their / their carers / parents / family lives.)
I.e.: What support is there for this in your area, and wider Essex area?
Where are such sufferers usually referred? What is the procedure? How long is the wait?
Can such a sufferer (I do not use the term "sufferer" lightly - ASDs + OCD can cause immense chronic mental suffering) be referred out of county, if local services do not exist? How is this done?
What about those who are unable to obtain a proper diagnosis of Aspergers / autism in Essex, despite their every effort?
Yours faithfully,
[P. Smith].
Dear [P. Smith]
This is to acknowledge receipt of your FOI request and to confirm that any information we hold on this matter will be sent to you within the statutory 20 working days.
Kind regards

Dear [P. Smith]
In reply to your FOI request received by us on 23 April, we have pleasure in supplying you with the following information:
A: There is no specific Aspergers/OCD service, however, the most appropriate community team would pick this up.
Q. Where are such sufferers usually referred? What is the procedure? How long is the wait?
A: Support for OCD would generally be dealt with through community teams if at a level that affects someone's daily functioning. Unfortunately, we do not have any information in specific waiting times for this co-morbidity.
Q: Can such a sufferer (I do not use the term "sufferer" lightly - ASDs + OCD can cause immense chronic mental suffering) be referred out of county, if local services do not exist? How is this done?
A: If no local services exist, out of area referrals are made on a case by case basis through the care co-ordinator. If someone is eligible for social care support, they may be able to purchase through a personal budget.
Q: What about those who are unable to obtain a proper diagnosis of Aspergers / autism in Essex, despite their every effort?
A: We are confident that they would be diagnosed. However, if there was a reason for concern further help would be available through NHS South Essex PALS service.
We thank you for your enquiry and hope this meets your requirements. Please do not hesitate to contact me if I can be of further assistance.
Kind regards
