Dear Mr Patel
Thank you for your Freedom of Information request concerning Admissions Statistics for PBS at St John's College.
We no longer hold information on unsuccessful applicants from 2015 and 2016 cycles.
1. All candidates invited to interview will have had predicted grades that met the minimum offer level for
those years.
2. To disclose individual results for the pre-interview tests scores for applicants would require the processing
of the personal data of applicants for a purpose other than that for which it was obtained and
would therefore conflict with the Data Protection Principles. We can state that the average score for all
candidates was 4.6 and ranged from 1.0 to 8.9, and the essay scores average was 2.0, and ranged from 1.0 to
3.0.
3. To disclose individual interview scores and any documented comments for these applicants would require
the processing of the personal data of applicants for a purpose other than that for which it was obtained
and would therefore conflict with the Data Protection Principles. However, the range of interview scores
was as follows (2017 cycle): successful applicants ranged from 7 to 10, and overall ranged from 5 to 10.
4. School type. To disclose this information as the group is so small might risk identifying individuals. We can
state that the majority were at State/Maintained schools.
5. 2017 cycle : 17 applications, 12 invited for interview, 7 placed in the Pool and 3 conditional offers.
Two candidates placed in the Pool received offers from other Colleges.
2016 cycle: 17 applications, 11 invited for interview, 0 placed in pool, and 5 conditional offers
2015 cycle: 14 applications, 9 invited for interview, 4 placed in pool, and 2 conditional offers
If you are dissatisfied with my response you may seek an internal review in writing setting out the grounds for review. It will be dealt with by a College Officer. Should you not be satisfied with the outcome of the review, you will have a right of appeal to the Information Commissioner by writing to him at Information Commissioner's Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AF.
Yours sincerely
Angela McKenzie
