Admissions statistics for History BA
Dear Durham University,
I would be grateful if you would provide the following admissions statistics for the History BA course (V100):
(1) The percentage of offers given in each month from September to April of all the offers given for the course. For example, hypothetically, 10.2% of offers are given out in January.
(2) The percentage of responses given to applications in each month from September to April that are successful (with an offer given), as opposed to a rejection. For example, hypothetically, 34.4% of responses given to candidates in September are successful offers.
(3) The percentage of candidates that apply in each month from September to January that are successful and gain an offer to study at Durham University. For example, hypothetically, 39% of applicants who apply in October are successful.
The most recent statistics would be preferable, please.
Yours faithfully,
Cecelia Knight

Dear Cecelia
Thank you for your request for information from Durham University.
Colleagues have provided the information below/attached in response to
your questions.

Please see the attached spreadsheet for the figures. We have provided
figures for the most recent cycle - in this case the 2016-17 admissions
cycle.
We have provided figures in numbers as this is the format in which they
are held by the University, from which the percentages can be derived.
The first table shows cumulative figures (i.e. directly from our monthly
statistics) and the second shows how many of these happen each month.
The offer code in the monthly statistics extracts will change when the
applicant withdraws. This makes it impossible to provide exactly what the
request asks about offers made regardless of their later status. It means
that the total goes down close to the end of the cycle. However the
number of students withdrawing or changing course is small and therefore
has minimal impact on the overall percentages.
The third table responds to question 3.
If you are dissatisfied with the University’s response to your freedom of
information request, you can ask us to internally review our handling of
your request, including the application of any exemptions applied. To do
this, please email [1][Durham University request email] or write to:
