Dear Ms Turner,
I am writing in response to your recent request for information under the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 ('the Act').
A. Please can you either make available on the university website or
attach copies to this FOI request of the minutes for the following
committees which report to the university's senate.
· Student Support Services
· Academic Affairs Committee
Please provide minutes from academic year 2005/06 onwards or as far back
as is possible given the provisions in the act regarding time frames and
costs incurred when searching for information.
Please find attached minutes of Academic Affairs Committee and Student
Support Committee. Please note that several instances of third party
personal data have been redacted. Their disclosure would breach the first
data protection principle and the information is therefore exempt from
disclosure under section 40(2) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
B. Please provide a copy of the university's admissions
statement/policy for both undergraduate and postgraduate students, or the
single admissions policy which covers both if separate ones do not exist.
C. Please provide a copy of the general undergraduate and
postgraduate selectors guidelines/handbooks and any associated information
which gives advice and guidance to admissions tutors at the university on
how to deal with applications from students with disabilities, including
information on how the institution deals with special cases e.g. where a
disabled student has very narrowly missed the terms of their offer owing
to the disability or other extenuating circumstances outside of their
control.
The University's admissions statement is being reviewed and will be
rewritten in light of the new QAA chapter on admissions. The general
guidance for admissions tutors is also currently under review. We would
be happy to notify you when these documents have been completed, and to
provide you with copies if required.
We do not have specific guidelines for admissions tutors regarding
disability; there is an extensive email campaign with applicants organised
via Admissions and Recruitment by Student Support and a network of
disability champions/contacts in each department.
D. Please provide a copy of the university's disability policy i.e.
the policy which covers admissions and support for such students while
they are students at the university.
An admissions policy for disabled students has been drafted and is
currently going through the process of approval via University's committee
structure. There is no specific "disability policy" although the
University does have a strategic equality plan:

Advice and guidance for disabled students once they are here in
Aberystwyth is available via the Student Support website:

Should you require anything further, please do contact me again.
Yours sincerely,
Julie Archer
