Dear Mr Wong

Freedom of Information Request (our reference FOI18-260)

We refer to your Freedom of Information request dated 4 June 2018 and
received during business hours on 5 June 2018.   You requested the
following information:

“1.      How many international students (Non EU) applied to the BA in Law
M100  for the admission year 2015, 2016, 2017?

2.      What is the breakdown of nationality of students (Non-EU) for the
admission year 2015, 2016, 2017?

3.      If the exact breakdown is not available, list the number of
students from the following countries for the admission year 2015, 2016,
2017?

•       Singapore
•       Hong Kong
•       China
•       Taiwan
•       Thailand
•       Malaysia
•       Indonesia

4.      How many international students (Non-EU) received an interview for
the admission year 2015, 2016, 2017?

5.      How many international students (Non-EU) received an offer for the
admission year 2015, 2016, 2017?

6.      How many local students (UK and EU) applied to the course for the
admission year 2015, 2016, 2017?

7.      How many local students (UK and EU) received an interview for the
admission year 2015, 2016, 2017?

8.      How many local students (UK and EU) received an offer for the
admission year 2015, 2016, 2017?”

University’s Response

Further to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the “Act”) we
confirm that the information requested is partially held by the University
of Bristol (the “University”).

The University does not interview candidates for its M100 Law course.
Please find attached a spreadsheet containing information relevant to your
other questions.

The first tab (labelled ‘Applications and offers’) shows the numbers of
applications received from Home (UK and EU) and Overseas applicants, and
the numbers of offers made, in each of the admissions years 2015, 2016 and
2017. The second tab (labelled ‘Country of domicile’) shows the country of
domicile of applicants.

The data supplied relates to standard applications only, i.e. it does not
include those received via Clearing or Adjustment. Deferred applications
are not included. The entry year is based on the data at the end of the
cycle, so if someone applied in 2016 for 16/17 entry and then deferred to
17/18, they will be treated as a deferred application and will not be
counted in the figures.

Please note that the University does not release exact counts of five or
less because these are personal data of third parties or, if linked with
other personal identifiers in the public domain, would be likely to become
personal data. This information has been withheld under section 40(2) of
the Act.

right under Section 50 of the Act to request an internal review.  All such
