Dear Sophie Gwyneth
Thank you for your request for environmental information received
07/03/2024 concerning Active Travel - Penisadre Road. Please see below -
we apologise for the delay in responding.
• The works, which have been undertaken, are designed to improve
pedestrian safety in this location, especially for pedestrians walking
along the High Street crossing the junction with Penisadre Road.
• The changes being made will result in slower traffic speeds through
the junction, and give pedestrians a shorter distance to cross.
• Engagement on the project took place in the form of a ‘drop-in’
session for interested parties and via on-line consultation website.
Invitations were sent to 892 local business and residential addresses
through the post and a press release was issued detailing the
engagement. We also sent emails to a large number of interested
stakeholders notifying them of the engagement. Finally, we also
visited Bodnant Community School, holding direct talks with pupils
about the scheme and also speaking to parents outside the school
gates.
• The works are being fully-funded by the Welsh Government Active Travel
Fund Grant.
• The Welsh Government transport strategy, Llwybr Newydd, places people
and climate change at the centre of how we design our transport
system, setting the vision for an accessible, sustainable and
efficient transport system.
• The powers to carry out the works are contained within the Highways
Act 1980.
• As is standard practice for any scheme, we will continue to monitor
the operation of the road network in this location at peak times
following completion of the Penisadre Road project.
• Local Members have been involved in the development of the project
