Active travel and leisure facility spending
Dear North Yorkshire County Council,
I’m writing to request the following:
The total funding allocation apportioned towards programmes designed to encourage, promote or facilitate cycling, walking or any other types of active transport in the area from the transport,environmental or urban planning departments for the 2013/14 financial year.
If there is no spend in these areas to attribute, I would like to request the confirmation that no funds have been allocated.
Where this amount is as a result of specific ongoing investments, please appropriately apportion the amount of this spend which will be allocated for the 2013/14 financial year. Where this is not possible, please give the total amount of the investment including all years.
Furthermore, I would like to receive the details of the total amount of money spent on leisure facilities and leisure services which fall under the remit of the local authority, for the 2013/14 financial year as a separate figure. In this instance, ‘leisure facilities and services’ are considered all leisure providers where physical activity provision is a key component of its service.

North Yorkshire County Council expenditure on Active Travel during FY
2013-14 is as follows:
Construction of new cycling and pedestrian facilities – specific local
projects = £31,242 Construction of cycle and footway facilities through
LSTF funding = £175,519 Provision of Bikeability training to 4030 primary
school pupils (Years 5 & 6) = £161,200 Provision of sustainable travel,
cycling and walking promotion, education and training to all ages but
especially through schools plus travel planning advice and guidance =
£26,000
Maintenance of existing network of footways and cycle ways = £2,094,350
Total expenditure during FY 2013-14 to encourage, promote or facilitate
walking and cycling through Highways and Planning within Business and
Environmental Services at NYCC = £2,488,311
Furthermore, I would like to receive the details of the total amount of
money spent on leisure facilities and leisure services which fall under
the remit of the local authority, for the 2013/14 financial year as a
separate figure. In this instance, ‘leisure facilities and services’ are
considered all leisure providers where physical activity provision is a
key component of its service.
This is a District Council function rather than a County Council function.
The information is instead held by the District Councils so I suggest you
