FOI, Sport England

Dear Mark

I write further to your request below for information. Please accept my
sincere apologies for the delay in responding to your request and any
inconvenience this may have caused.  Sport England like many other
organisations and the nation generally is dealing with the severe impact
of the coronavirus pandemic on our working operations and these impacts
have led to delays in the delivery of our timescales.

We have now considered your request and I have set out our response below.

We consider that this information is exempt from disclosure under Section
21 of the Freedom of information Act 2000 on the grounds that it is
reasonably accessible to you via other means.

The information you have requested about all our sporting facilities is
already available on Sport England’s Active Places database. We have
therefore explained below where and how you can find the information.

Active Places is a national sport facility database that can be accessed
free of charge. The database holds data on 15 different facility types
e.g. grass pitches and Artificial Grass Pitches (AGPs).  These facility
types in most instances also have sub types (for example Grass Pitches is
an extreme example with 22 sub types, therefore they may need to be
filtered as required i.e. adult football, junior football and mini
soccer).

Active Places data is available as open data and can be access from
[1]https://www.activeplacespower.com/opendata in both CSV and JSON
formats.

Alternatively the Active Places Power website
[2]https://www.activeplacespower.com provides a series of reports (such as
Detailed Report > Facilities) that provide information on the current
provision of all or selected facilities in England.  The facility
information can be used to filter or profile data as required, with the
‘Year Built’ attribute helping to determine a profile of facilities over
time.  Each site at which a facility is located holds full address,
postcode and geographic coordinate information, in addition to standard
administrative geographies such as Local Authorities, Counties and other
similar geographies.

You can register for access to Active Places Power by going to
[3]https://www.activeplacespower.com clicking the “Register Now” link and
submitting the request form.   For full details on the information held
see the Sport Data Model - [4]https://www.activeplacespower.com/sdm.  A
further useful reference are the FAQs -
[5]https://www.activeplacespower.com/faqs/a...

This completes our response to your information request.

If you would like to complain about the way we have handled your request
or ask for our decision to be reviewed please contact:
[6][Sport England request email]

Please describe your original request, explain your grounds for
dissatisfaction and include an address for correspondence. All internal
reviews are carried out by a colleague who has not previously been
involved in the handling of your information request. We aim to complete
internal reviews within twenty working days.

If you are not content with the outcome of our Internal Review you have
the right to appeal to the Information Commissioner. Generally speaking
the Information Commissioner will not be able to consider an appeal unless
you have first exhausted the Internal Review procedure provided by Sport
England.

The Information Commissioner can be contacted at:
