Accessibility of council websites
Dear Shropshire Council,
The following questions relate to the websites run by the council.
Can you tell me when was the last audit conducted and can I have results of that audit?
Also what steps is the council taking to make sure that websites are accessable by September 23 2020?
Yours faithfully,
Abdul Hai

Dear FOI,
Hi I mean by audit any exercise undertaken to assess the accessibility of the council website in line with the new regulations.
Yours sincerely,
Abdul Hai
Good afternoon,
As a council, we have always taken accessibility seriously, and as such,
we are committed to meeting the criteria detailed in ‘The Public Sector
Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility
Regulations 2018’.
We use an automated service to check our main website for compliance to
accessibility criteria. This is a continuous review of the site, which
takes periodic snapshots of pages allowing us to take into account the
regular changes to text/content alongside any underlying template/code
issues.
Any issues found are investigated, with content altered, or development
work planned to address the problems. Any major issues are listed on our
Accessibility Statement on our website (found here:
[1]https://www.shropshire.gov.uk/website-in...).
Prior to the implementation of the regulations, we have prepared by
ensuring that we clearly state our accessibility needs in the functional
requirements for all new online services that have been developed/procured
for use by the council. We arrange for in-house testing to take place to
ensure that this requirement has been met using a mixture of automated and
manual checks. Some recent projects have incorporated functional testing
carried out by staff with visual impairments to highlight any usability
issues that may have been missed. Where issues are found, the report is
sent to and discussed with the supplier, with fixes and further testing
carried out until the service meets the requirements, at which point the
service is then cleared to go live.
Ahead of the final deadline next September, we are planning an update of
our main website, and will be undertaking a review of all existing
third-party services that form part of Shropshire Council’s online
offering. Where necessary, any third-party service that is found to not
comply will be noted, and we will contact the suppliers to resolve any
issues that may be present.
Regards
