Access to Work - Training provision for A2W claim assessors on neurodiversity
Dear Department for Work and Pensions,
Please respond to the following questions about the training A2W claim assessors receive in order to carry out their duties in a fair, effective, and efficient manner.
A) What specific guidance is provided (and/or recommended) to A2W assessors on:
i. the nature of neurodiversity such as ADHD and ASD?
ii. the impact neurodiversity may have on an A2W claimant's ability to interact with the application process?
iii. what represents good practice in accommodating the needs of A2W customers with neurodivergence?
iv) please supply a copy of recommended training materials on this topic (preferentially) in PDF format [Version in use in 2022 and 20223] appropriately dated and titled.
v) If the document exists as part of a handbook or course manual covering multiple forms of disability, please send the full document.
vi) In the event some or all of the materials are external resources, please give the name and website of the provider organisation/resource.
B) Are A2W claim assessors trained in disability awareness by:
i) subcontracted training providers (and if so on what criteria are they selected)?
ii) in-house training specialists?
B2) What processes are used to:
i) determine what should be included in such training?
ii) assess and assure the teaching qualifications and skills of trainers?
iii) ensure the accuracy of information provided on this topic by trainers?
