Academic journal costs

The request was successful.

Dear Queen’s University Belfast,

I would like the university to publish the data outlined below, in relation to the years 1980, 2000, and each year from 2012-2018 (or up to the most recent figures available):

1. The total amount spent by the university on all publishers of academic journals
2. The total sums paid to these specific publishers:
Reed-Elsevier
Springer
Wiley-Blackwell
Taylor & Francis
Sage

I understand that your expenditure records may be held in academic financial years rather than calendar years. If so, I am happy for the response to be provided in this format.

The figures should include payments made directly to the publishers as well as any payments made to subscription agents or intermediaries for the purchase of, and/or access to, the publishers' academic journals. They should also include payment for journal packages such as Jisc Collections agreements, as well as for individual journals. Please include VAT where possible.

Yours faithfully,

S.Goodman

Dear Queen’s University Belfast,

I am writing to request a short internal review of Queen’s University Belfast's handling of my FOI request 'Academic journal costs'.

First of all, thank you for your help so far. However, I believe there may be errors on page 2 of Appendix 1.pdf, which I presume are the answers to my request about the total amount spent by the university on all publishers of academic journals.

The only dates listed are 2016 and 2017, even though the information appears to relate to multiple years.

Many thanks,

S. Goodman

Dear Queen’s University Belfast,

I am writing to request an internal review of Queen’s University Belfast's handling of my FOI request 'Academic journal costs'.

Thank you - that does clarify things. However, unless I'm missing something obvious, the response does seem to omit the total amount spent by the university on all publishers of academic journals. I understand that this figure may not be available for 1980, 2000, and 2018, but presume the University holds this information for the remaining years I've requested.

Yours faithfully,

S. Goodman

Mr Goodman

This has been an oversight on our part. I have asked Library Services to confirm if the total sums paid to the five specific publishers - Reed-Elsevier; Springer; Wiley-Blackwell; Taylor & Francis and Sage is all that we have paid, or, in line with your first question, have we made payments to others.

I will get back to you as soon as I receive a response.

With best wishes.
