The request was refused by Glasgow Caledonian University.

Dear Glasgow Caledonian University,

Under the freedom of information act I would like to know the number of academic appeals submitted and of these how many were upheld and rejected

I would like this information broken down by school and further broken down by appeal category (1. Personal, 2 Academic Grounds) . In a spreadsheet format.

Yours faithfully,

Stephen McLean

Dear Mr McLean,

I refer to your FoI enquiry concerning Appeals for session 2008\09 and 2009\10. The University is able to provide you with the number of appeals for each School in sessions 2008\09 and 2009\10, this information is provided in the attached PDF file.

The University is unable to provide you with a breakdown by the type of appeal (Personal, Academic Grounds) as this information is held in paper records. To provide the information the University would need to retrieve the Minute for each appeal (at least 417 appeals) in order to extract and collate the information that you have requested. The University estimates that this would take 10 minutes per appeal (i.e. an approximate total of 69.5 hours) and this would require to be undertaken by an administrator (Grade 5 @ £15 per hour). Hence the estimated total cost of providing the information that you have requested is £1043 (i.e. 69.5 hours x £15 maximum chargeable hourly rate).

As the estimated cost of providing the requested information exceeds the cost prescribed in the regulations of £600 the University is relying on Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 paragraph 12(1) Excessive cost of compliance together with paragraph 13(2) to withhold the requested information.

Yours sincerely,

Dear Mr. McLean,

I refer to your FoI enquiry below concerning Academic Appeal Statistics for the School of Engineering and Computing and the School of Health. The University does not hold the information that you have requested by School and therefore would still have to go through all its paper records to extract the information that you have requested and therefore this would still be over cost.

As the cost of providing the requested information exceeds the cost prescribed in the regulations of £600 the University is relying on Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 paragraph 12(1) Excessive cost of compliance together with paragraph 13(2) to withhold the requested information.
