Abosede Adeyinka,

The request was refused by Disclosure and Barring Service.

Dear Disclosure and Barring Service,

I am seeking information regarding the Disclosure and Barring Services' response to the case described in this link

http://news.met.police.uk/news/woman-jai...

concerning a person named Abosede Adeyinka who was convicted of the attempted murder of an elderly woman who she met in the course of her (Adeyinka's) employment as a carer. It was reported that Ms Adeyinka had previous convictions prior to her attempt murder conviction and prior to commencing employment as a carer.

Please can you send copies of any documentation regarding the case of Ms Adeyinka, such as reports into any DBS checks, reviews, due diligence reports, case reviews, and briefings. Please also send copies of any emails / letters / memos sent within the DBS, sent to the DBS or from the DBS about this case.

Many thanks for all your help.

DBS FOI, Disclosure and Barring Service

Good Morning Mr Hicks,

Thank you for contacting the DBS Freedom of Information Team, unfortunately in this instance we will be unable to help you. Section 40 of the Freedom of Information Act exempts the provision of any personal data and the information requested would qualify as personal data.

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) works to protect vulnerable groups in society, including children. Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do at the DBS and we play a vital role in keeping people safe. A DBS check will reveal all relevant Police National Computer (PNC) information that is not filtered. Since our foundation five years ago, we have issued more than 22 million disclosure certificates to help employers make safer recruitment decisions.

Ultimately whatever a DBS check reveals the decision to employ someone rests with the employer, they must carry out their own assessment as to someone’s suitability to a particular role.

I hope that this is of assistance.

Kind regards,
Peter

Dear Disclosure and Barring Service,

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.

I am writing to request an internal review of Disclosure and Barring Service's handling of my FOI request 'Abosede Adeyinka,'.

I am not asking for details of Ms Adeyinka's DBS. What I am asking for is a copy of any report/enquiry/review undertaken regarding this matter. It is a matter of record that a DBS was issued for Ms Adeyinka, who was later convicted of attempted murder of a client for whom she had been employer to care for, and that she had previous convictions. There is a clear pubic interest in providing this information , and one would imagine that such was the seriousness of this horrible and unusual set of circumstances that the DBS would have undertaken a due diligence check and potentially a more wide ranging review. I suspect this happened, and am asking for these reports.

A full history of my FOI request and all correspondence is available on the Internet at this address: https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/a...

Good Afternoon Mr Hicks,

You would then still have the option to ask for an internal review once we have issued a response. Alternatively if you would rather this be treated as an internal review initially please let me know.
