Abbeyfield Wessex Society Ltd - Level of rents and charges for which Housing Benefit is paid.

The request was successful.

Dear Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole Council,

This request relates to the level of rents and service charges for the concern known as Abbeyfield Wessex Society Ltd. Payment of Housing Benefit is made to this concern and the information sought is as follows:

1) Rents charged far exceed those for similar accommodation in the private sector. Total charges for a room in one scheme can be as much as £2000 a month. Please advise if the council meets the full costs of rents and service charges. In the event amounts are restricted, please provide details of any adjustments.

2) How many claims to Housing Benefit did the council process in the year ended 31 March 2022 from people living in Abbeyfield Wessex Society schemes in your area?

3) What was the maximum award of Housing Benefit paid to an individual living in a scheme operated by Abbeyfield Wessex Society Ltd in the year ended 31 March 2022?

4) Has the council ever challenged the level of rents and charges on which payment of Housing Benefit has been sought? What was the outcome if so?

Yours faithfully,

Jane Roberts
