A4174 30mph Repeater Signage 2

The request was partially successful.

Dear South Gloucestershire Council,

Back in August of 2017, I contacted you regarding two 30mph gateway signs on the A4174 Ring Road and that they had been deployed in contravention to the traffic signage regulations you are obligated to observe.

After some initial uncomfortable attempts at justification, you realised you had no option but to admit your blatant error and finally in October, conceded that the signs must be removed.

The full exchange can be viewed here via this link;

https://www.whatdotheyknow.com/request/a...

Despite the ease by which both signs could be removed, a quarter of a year has now passed and the non-compliant signage is still wrongfully deployed. I am trusting that you stated the signs would be removed not simply to placate, but rather than to actually action your concession.

So, under the usual FOI time constraints, I request the following information;

1. Supply all relevant dated internal emails, memos and work orders that relate to the removal of the non-compliant 30mph gateway signs as outlined above.

2. What is the anticipated/intended date of their removal?

3. If no relevant internal emails, memos and work orders exist, why has no action been taken to remove these signs?

Yours faithfully,

Andrew Whitehead

Dear Mr MacKay

Back in January of this year, when asked the date that the non-compliant 30mph gateway/repeater signage would be removed, you responded saying that the anticipated/intended date for removal was March 2018.

March has now been and gone and the signage is still in-situ.

So four questions result, your response being covered by the usual FOI time constraints.

1) Why haven’t the 30mph signage been removed as per your last response?

2) Given that anyone who has passed the recognised national driving test can see that such signage cannot be present in a posted 30mph limit when a system of street lighting is present, it is plainly evident even to the layman that such signage should never have been deployed. This is entry level stuff, yet someone in a recognised position of authority signed this work off at the expense of those people they serve. Clearly, that person’s competence to carry out their role has to be put under the spotlight.

Who is the individual responsible for signing-off the deployment of the non-compliant signage?

3) How much has it cost to deploy the non-compliant signage?

4) How much will it cost to remove the non-compliant signage?

Yours sincerely,

Andy Whitehead
