Environmental Information Regulations request: A303 Stonehenge 
 
Thank you for your email of 11 March requesting information in relation to the A303 
Stonehenge scheme. As your request concerns Stonehenge Tunnels areas of ground 
that will be excavated for the scheme, I have dealt with it under the terms of the 
Environmental Information Regulations. 
 
On 11 March you asked,’… Please tell me the total area of ground that will be 
excavated or disturbed for: 
The Longbarrow junction 
The western cutting towards the tunnel including the cut and cover section, within the 
WHS and outside its boundary 
The eastern cutting including any land that will be excavated around.…
’  
 
I am writing to confirm that we have now completed our search for the information. 
 
Area of scheme subject to excavation (excluding tunnel) is 38.16 hectares: 
 
•  The Longbarrow junction: 29.01 hectares 
•  The western cutting towards the tunnel including the cut and cover section, within 
the WHS and outside its boundary: 6.04 hectares 
•  The eastern cutting including any land that will be excavated around the existing 
A303: 3.11 hectares
