Dear Mr Kong,

Freedom of Information Request: (FOI18-494)

I refer to your Freedom of Information Request received on 21^st October.
We apologise for the delay in providing our response.  We have a
significant backlog which we are working through as quickly as we can.  We
have contacted the Information Commissioner’s Office to explain the
situation.

Your Request

For the  2015-2018 entry:
1. Minimum UKCAT score for interview
2. %/Number of applicants offering 2 science/maths A level and one other
academic A level.

University’s Response

Further to Section 1 of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (the “Act”) we
confirm that the information requested is held by the University of
Bristol (the “University”).

1. 2017 cycle: The lowest UKCAT score of any applicant who was interviewed
was 55.56. There is no UKCAT score information for 2015 and 2016 cycles as
the University did not use UKCAT for selection purposes until the 2017
cycle. Data from the 2018/19 admissions cycle (i.e. applications for entry
in September 2018) will not be available until December 2018, when the
admissions cycle is complete.

2. 2015 - 2455 or 49% declared at least 2 science and 1 maths A-level on
their UCAS form (see notes below for a further explanation of how this was
calculated)

2016 - 1817 or 45%

2017 - 1678 or 49%

Please note the following:

* Dataset consists of all applicants in the 2015, 2016 and 2017 cycle
whose first programme at application was A100.

* We have interpreted the phrase "number of applicants offering two
science/math A-level" as being the qualifications declared by the
applicant on their UCAS form.

* Applicants sometimes mis-declare qualifications on their UCAS form.
For example, declaring GCSEs as A-levels or non-A-level qualifications
as A-levels. This information will have been cleaned as part of the
selection process, but this is not retained as part of our reporting
database.

* Applicants are also asked to declare already-achieved qualifications
alongside predicted qualifications on their UCAS form, for example,
applicants who are retaking A-levels will declare both the
already-taken qualifications as well as the ones being retaken.

* In the count of the number of science and Maths A-levels given in this
return, we have included anything the applicant declared as an
A-level, and have included both past and future A-levels in the count.
So, for example, if the applicant has already achieved a Chemistry
A-level but is retaking it, this counts at two Science A-levels.

* For the purposes of this return, a Science A-level is any A-level with
"Chemistry", "Biology" or "Physics" in the title as declared by the
applicant.
