A100 Medicine for International Applicants

The request was partially successful.

Dear Queen Mary University of London,

Under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act 2000, I kindly request some raw, anonymised data from you regarding university applications.

By an international applicant, I am referring to those who do not qualify for Home status fees; by a successful applicant, I am referring to those who received offers. Likewise, I would like all the information requested be in relation to A100 Medicine.

If available, I would like the information to only reflect International Applicants; for each applicant that applied:
> The number of GCSEs from each applicant
> The number of A*s at GCSE/IGCSE from each applicant
> The number of A Levels from each applicant
> The number of A*s at A Level from each applicant
> The BMAT score attained by each applicant in each section

I additionally I would like all of the above information, if possible, categorised into which were rejected, interviewed; received offers.

Furthermore, I would like similar information regarding the whole cohort (international only):
> The average number of GCSEs presented by successful applicants
> The average number of A*s at GCSE/IGCSE presented by successful applicants
> The average number of A Levels presented by successful applicants
> The average number of A*s at A Level presented by successful applicants
> The average BMAT score presented by successful applicants in each section

Additionally, I would like to know how grade 9s at GCSE are looked at by your university and whether or not they are being distinguished or will be distinguished (if possible, when) from Grade 8s/A*s.

Yours faithfully,

Shaz Raja

Dear Shaz Raja,

We acknowledge receipt of your request.

I am writing to you for clarification.

Firstly, you have not specified any time period for which you seek information. Secondly, you have enquired specifically about International applicants, but also about GCSE and A-level grades, which many of this type of applicant will not hold.

Also, please note that we do not use the BMAT and we do not score GCSEs as part of the application process to A100, although you can see the requirements here: https://www.qmul.ac.uk/smd/undergraduate...

Please note that we will not process your request any further until we receive a response.

Yours sincerely,

Paul Smallcombe

Dear QM FOI Enquiries,

Thank you for the update, that was my fault.

I would like the information in regards to the last 5 years- if not possible, as many as can be done. Furthermore, I would like applicants who do not possess these qualifications (A level and/or [I]GCSE) to be ignored in the process. Additionally, instead, I would like to have similar information regarding the UCAT scores: the UCAT score attained by each applicant (grouped into successful, interviewed; rejected) and the average UCAT score for successful applicants.

Just to re-iterate: all in regards to international applicants.

Yours sincerely,

Shaz Raja

Please be aware this returns all GCSE qualifications for a candidate. If
they apply to QMUL again, this will double the number of GCSEs etc.
Therefore the data may not look accurate as presented to you, but we can
only supply it as held by us.

If you are dissatisfied with this response, you may ask QMUL to conduct a
review of this decision.  To do this, please contact the College in
writing (including by fax, letter or email), describe the original
request, explain your grounds for dissatisfaction, and include an address
for correspondence.  You have 40 working days from receipt of this
communication to submit a review request.  When the review process has
been completed, if you are still dissatisfied, you may ask the Information
Commissioner to intervene. Please see [1]www.ico.org.uk for details.

Yours sincerely
