The University has now considered your request and our response can be
found below.
1-7, 10 and 12-18. This information is due to be published on our website
at [1]https://www.bmh.manchester.ac.uk/study/m.... It is
therefore exempt from disclosure by virtue of the listed exemption at
Section 22 (1) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Information
intended for future publication. This is a qualified exemption, and
therefore we must consider the public interest in its application. Please
see below:
Public Interest Test
Factors favouring disclosure
Disclosure of the information would afford transparency in the student
recruitment process and practices here at The University of Manchester. It
would also allow for public debate on the subject.
Factors against disclosure
Disclosure now would create an unnecessary burden on staff to prepare the
data to disclose it in response to a request, when that data is due to be
published at a later date. This burden is particularly unmerited at the
moment in light of the coronavirus crisis and the extra measures that we
are having to put in place as a result of that.
Balancing Test
It is the view of the University that for the reasons highlighted above,
the balance lies in favour of maintaining the exemption at the present
moment in time.
8-9. and 19-20. Information not held – we do not use combined scores.
11. We are unsure as to what you mean by this question. This could mean
applicants who originally applied for deferral, those who asked to defer
mid-cycle or those that the School has had to defer to 2021 as a result of
the use of Centre Assessed A-Level Grades. If you could confirm which you
mean we could reconsider this part of your request.
21. If an applicant applies in the 2021 application cycle they would not
be allocated a place in 2020 as they would not have been interviewed in
that cycle.
22. We do not use a weighting system. Information not held.
23. Yes however please note we would consider this an admissions
questions. Please be advised that we hold open day talks where we explain
the admissions process fully and therefore we would recommend attending
one of these where you can ask admissions related questions if they are
not answered on the day. Additionally, if you cannot find the answer to
any admissions questions on our website at
[2]https://www.bmh.manchester.ac.uk/study/m... then they can be
addressed via email to the admissions team at
[3][email address].
24. This is not a valid request under the Freedom of Information Act as it
is seeking an opinion rather than access to recorded data. Additionally we
can advise that our highly experienced medical school staff have worked
with UKCAT/UCAT for years but they do not recognise the term “global
interim” in relation to it.
If you feel that The University of Manchester has refused access to
information to which you are entitled, or has not dealt with your request
appropriately under the FOIA, you have a right of appeal.
An appeal in the first instance should be directed to the Information
Governance Office at [4][email address]. You should include:
· details of your initial request
· any other relevant information
You must make this appeal within 40 working days from receipt of your
response. We will not accept appeals received after this date, as per the
Freedom of Information Code of Practice, Section 5.3.
The University will deal with your appeal within a reasonable time, and
will inform you of the projected time scale on receipt of your complaint.
You are also welcome to contact the Information Governance Office with
informal questions about the handling of your request.
After The University’s internal appeals procedure has been exhausted, you
have a further right of appeal to the Information Commissioner’s
Office. Details of this procedure can be found at [5]www.ico.org.uk.
Kind regards
Sharon
