A100 interview selection

Automatic anti-spam measures are in place for this older request. Please let us know if a further response is expected or if you are having trouble responding.

The request was refused by University of Dundee.

Dear University of Dundee,

Could you confirm what selection process you are using for your A100 medicine course for RUK applicants, please.
I would appreciate any scoring system you may use for GCSEs and A levels and what proportion of overall ranking for selection for interview each of these is given
Could you also please tell me how you allocate the points for the UCAT, eg is it in deciles and if so are those based on Pearson Vue scoring or the applicants to Aston?
Could you then also confirm what score, using this scoring system, was needed for a standard, non-contextual applicant, broken down into fee status, for 2019 and 2020 entry, please?
I appreciate enrollment is not completed for 2020, so am happy with any working scores you have used to date

Yours faithfully,

Michael Murine

Dear University of Dundee,

Can I please ask theat you reply to my Freedom of Information request?

Yours faithfully,

Michael Murine

FreedomOfInformation, University of Dundee

Dear Mr Murine,
Thank you for your request for information from the University of Dundee.
Please accept my apologies that it has taken our team a little while to
get back to you.

The University combines an Academic Score (based on certified and
predicted grades and contextual factors) and UCAT score. These scores were
weighted 60:40 Academic:UCAT for non-graduates and 40:60 Academic:UCAT for
graduates. We use the UCAT score by categorising the applicants in deciles
of UCAT performance. More information about the UCAT can be found at
[1]https://www.ucat.ac.uk/. Applications submitted without the UCAT test
will not be considered.

Relevant work experience is also essential, we encourage up to two weeks
of medically-related work or shadowing experience. We also look at
extra-curricular activities, such as sports, hobbies, part-time work,
volunteering, etc. which can demonstrate high motivation, commitment,
social contribution, and strong communication and leadership skills.

All applications must be submitted through UCAS by the deadline. All
applications are considered on an individual basis, and I must highlight
that simply meeting the entry criteria does not guarantee an offer of
interview or place at Dundee University.

Concerning threshold scores the University is unable to release this
information to you. To place information concerning thresholds into the
public domain is likely to prejudice substantially the integrity of the
admissions process. The University is not prepared to release information
that might create the perception of a ‘target’ or similar, leading to
applicants focusing on that rather than the totality of their application.
Consequently, under S.16 of the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
(FoI(S)A) I confirm that:

a. The University holds information on the assessment of the interview
process; b. The University claims that information is exempt from
disclosure; c. The University claims the exemption in S.30(c) of FoI(S)A;
that the disclosure of this information would prejudice substantially the
effective conduct of public affairs; d. The University claims the
exemption for the reasons detailed above.

The University is required to have regard to the public interest in the
application of this exemption. The University asserts that there is a
greater public interest in it maintaining a robust and fair admissions
process than in the disclosure of detailed information on how applications
are scored, over and above that already provided. You can find out more
regarding entry requirements here:
[2]https://www.dundee.ac.uk/undergraduate/m...
The University asserts that the release of this information would not
significantly improve the public understanding of the admissions process
given the amount of information already in the public domain -

I trust that this is the information you require, but please feel free to
contact me if I can be of further assistance.

Kind regards,

Alan
