A100 Admissions statistics for graduate applicants

The request was refused by University of Manchester.

Dear University of Manchester,
Could I request the admissions statistics for graduate applicants to your A100 MBCHB from the last 3 application cycles: 18/19, 19/20, 20/21. Specifically...

1. The number of graduate applications
2. The number of graduates given interviews
3. The number of final offers made to graduate applicants
4. Minimum UCAT score for a graduate with a 1:1 Honours degree that was subsequently invited to interview
5. Minimum UCAT score for a graduate with a 1:1 Honours degree that was subsequently given an offer

Additionally:

6. Do graduates compete for the same places as school leavers or are a set number of places reserved for graduates?
7. The number of places reserved on A100 for graduates (if any)
8. How does a graduates degree/A levels compare to a school leavers GCSE/ A levels during the application process?

Thank you :)

Yours faithfully,

Will Rob

Dear Will,

Thank you for your request for information received by The University of
Manchester on 14 April 2022 which was as follows:

The admissions statistics for graduate applicants to your A100 MBCHB from
the last 3 application cycles: 18/19, 19/20, 20/21. Specifically...

1. The number of graduate applications

2. The number of graduates given interviews 3. The number of final offers
made to graduate applicants 4. Minimum UCAT score for a graduate with a
1:1 Honours degree that was subsequently invited to interview 5. Minimum
UCAT score for a graduate with a 1:1 Honours degree that was subsequently
given an offer

Additionally:

6. Do graduates compete for the same places as school leavers or are a set
number of places reserved for graduates?

7. The number of places reserved on A100 for graduates (if any) 8. How
does a graduates degree/A levels compare to a school leavers GCSE/ A
levels during the application process?

NB The University of Manchester runs the A106 course rather than the A100
course and we have responded on that basis.

The University has now considered your request and unfortunately the
information you are seeking cannot be provided at this time. This is
because we do not separate out graduate applicants from all of our
applicants and therefore to respond to your request we would need to
manually assess thousands of applications to determine which ones were
from graduates to then be able to respond to your questions from that
group of people. Unfortunately manually assessing thousands of application
forms will take greatly in excess of the 18 hour ‘Appropriate Limit’ (as
defined in the Freedom of Information and Data Protection (Appropriate
Limit and Fees) Regulations 2004). As a result, Section 12 (1) of the
Freedom of Information Act 2000 applies and regrettably this task cannot
be undertaken at this stage. This email serves to act as a refusal notice
for this request, as per Section 17 (5) of the Act.

Statistics that we do hold in relation to applications etc. can be found
online at [1]https://www.bmh.manchester.ac.uk/study/m....
We would also recommend contacting the Medicine Admissions team if you
have questions about making an application (e.g. questions 6 to 8 would be
more suited to be dealt with as application questions rather than as an
FOI particularly as 6 and 8 are seeking opinions which are not a valid
request under the FOI Act Section 8 (1)), they can be contacted via email
at [2][email address].

I hope that this information is of use to you. If you feel that The
University of Manchester has refused access to information to which you
are entitled, or has not dealt with your request appropriately under the
FOIA, you have a right of appeal.

An appeal in the first instance should be directed to the Information
Governance Office at [3][email address]. You should include:

·         details of your initial request

·         any other relevant information

You must make this appeal within 40 working days from receipt of your
response. We will not accept appeals received after this date, as per the
Freedom of Information Code of Practice, Section 5.3.

The University will deal with your appeal within a reasonable time, and
will inform you of the projected time scale on receipt of your complaint.
You are also welcome to contact the Information Governance Office with
informal questions about the handling of your request.

After The University’s internal appeals procedure has been exhausted, you
have a further right of appeal to the Information Commissioner’s
Office. Details of this procedure can be found at [4]www.ico.org.uk.

Kind regards

Sharon
