Dear Mr Kristian Healey-Ryder
Thank you for your emails from 21 December 2021 requesting the following information:
FOI2021/15623
I have noted the Ministry of Defence publishing releases that specify support given to Scotland and
Wales to assist with the pandemic. However, there seems to be no equivalent information relating
to England.
Therefore, I would like to request the following: for the whole of the pandemic, up to the date of this
request, how many man hours of personnel have been deployed to each country of the UK?
We are treating your correspondence as requests for information under the Freedom of Information
Act 2000 (FOIA).
A search for the information has now been completed within the Ministry of Defence, and I can
confirm that some of the information requested is held.
The data held by the Standing Joint Command (UK) for personnel deployed in support of the
response to the pandemic does not record workforce hours by UK nation, but instead the numbers
of personnel authorised for tasks by requesting Government Department or Devolved
Administration. Since health care is largely a devolved matter, requests by central UK
Government Departments wil broadly equate to authorised taskings in England, while those of the
Devolved Administrations wil equate to deployments to their respective nation of the UK.
The following data covers the period March 2020 to 31 January 2022:
No. of personnel
Government of Jersey
16
Northern Ireland Office
466
Scottish Government
1876
Welsh Government
1550
UK Government Departments
24658
If you are not satisfied with this response or you wish to complain about any aspect of the handling
of your request, then you should contact us in the first instance at the address above. If informal
resolution is not possible and you are stil dissatisfied then you may apply for an independent
internal review by contacting the Information Rights Compliance team, Ground Floor, MOD Main
Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB (e-mail
xxxxxxxxxx@xxx.xx). Please note that any request for an
internal review must be made within 40 working days of the date on which the attempt to reach
informal resolution has come to an end.
If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may take your complaint to the
Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section 50 of the Freedom of Information Act.
Please note that the Information Commissioner wil not normally investigate your case until the
MOD internal review process has been completed. Further details of the role and powers of the
Information Commissioner can be found on the Commissioner's website,

Ministry of Defence
