Dear
Mr O'Sullivan,
Freedom of Information Request – FOI2021/00970
I am writing in response to your email received by Post Office Limited (“
Post Office”) on 5
November, which has been dealt with under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act
2000 (“
FOIA”).
In your email you have requested the following information in bold:
Can we ignore 2012 opening hours for now and concentrate just on 2018 and 2021.
Happily Branch numbers stayed the same in this period so the answer to one will do
for both.
Mains are open 47 hours per week
Traditional are open 45 hours per week,
Outreach 2-4 so we will say 3 hours per week.
I have branch numbers, so the math is simple here.
What are the average weekly hours a local is open.?
How many hours per week do the closed branches contribute to the open for
customers figure?
I can confirm that Post Office does not hold the information you have requested.
The FOIA does not require public bodies to create information merely to satisfy a request.
In order to provide you with information relating to opening hours, Post Office would have
to create a dataset by recreating al the opening hours for every branch based on
historical data, then attach the opening hours for every branch at that time and then
calculate the total opening hours for every branch. This is more than just simple building
blocks as it requires careful matching of data to provide an accurate record. In regards to
information relating to closed branches, the same is true. We would have to create a new
dataset which would require substantial work to ratify the data to avoid producing
erroneous data.
We can, however, provide information on the current network (unpublished and
unaudited) and its opening hours as it stands today:
Public
The opening hours of our branch network have had to adapt to the changing
circumstances of customer need especial y during the pandemic. Therefore, some of the
branch opening hours may have either increased or decreased since March 2020.
If you have any queries about this response, please contact me. Do remember to quote
the reference number above in any future communications.
I am sorry I could not provide you with the information you requested on this occasion,
however if you are dissatisfied with the handling of this response, you do have a right to
request an internal review. You can do this by writing to the address above or email
xxxxxxxxxxx.xxxxxx@xxxxxxxxxx.xx.xx stating your reasons for your internal review request.
If, having requested an internal review by Post Office, you are stil not satisfied with our
response you also have a right of appeal to the Information Commissioner at:
