Dear North Yorkshire County Council,

How many disabled workers do you employ?
How many work full time hours?
How many earn over 10,000 a year?
How many earn over 20'000 per annum?
How many earn over 30'000 per annum?
How many are employed within social care/ services?
How much have you spent on disablity access for your employees this year?

Yours faithfully,

Dear Ms Wilcockson

Thank you for your request for information, please find below our
reply.

Attached is a spreadsheet giving you the breakdown of figures regarding
employees.

Please note, however, that the Council is aware that there is a level
of under-reporting of disability within the workforce and has looked at
ways to encourage employees to be more open about disability. Employees
are asked to update their disability status on line via the Council's
intranet which allows employees to update their personal records
themselves. Unfortunately this is not used extensively enough for the
data to be correct. Reasons for this have been looked into and it would
appear that many staff do not consider themselves to be disabled or to
have a disability that needs recording, although they fall within the
definition covered by the social model of disability which the Council
adopts. In addition, even where staff recognise that they have a
disability they do not always see the need to record that in their
personal records.

Where you have asked for employees earning over £10,000, £20,000 or
£30,000, this has been provided based on the employee's gross and not
pro rata salary. Please note that almost two thirds of our employees
who have a disability work part-time (66%), this means that a large
proportion of these employees fall into their gross salary equating to
less than £10,000.

This part-time split is reflective of the full workforce which has a
full-time/part-time split of 35% FT/65% PT.

For Social Care Services employees, these figures are for Adult Social
Care and Children's Social Care.

This calendar year we have been invoiced £2916.75 for work in
connection with disabled access to buildings. There is also one
outstanding order for £375.00, for which we have not yet received an
invoice. This work will aid access to both employees and the public who
visit our buildings, so will not be just in relation to employees.
Please note that any costs for schools are not included in these
figures, as they have devolved capital available for such works, and are
responsible for their own information, which is not collated centrally.

Kind regards
