Dear Ms Smith,

Thank you for your email of 2 September 2021 requesting a review of the response dated 16 August
2021 supplied to you in respect of your request for information dated 19 July 2021. I now reply as the
officer responsible for the internal review of the handling of such requests. The purpose of the internal
review procedure is to ensure that the University has complied with the Freedom of Information Act
2000 (‘the Act’).

In your email of 2 September 2021 you stated:

Please pass this on to the person who conducts Freedom of Information reviews.
I am writing to request an internal review of University of Cambridge's handling of my FOI
request 'Admission Statistics (Postgraduate Masters Taught) - Computing'.
In my request, I asked for an editable Excel document. Instead, I received a PDF document.
The document is effectively unusable as it requires hundreds of pages without any way to filter
or edit. Please provide the information in an acceptable format.
As the ICO says, the purpose of the FOI Act is to promote open data, and by providing it in a
reusable format, you will be making it available not only to me but to many others who may
find it useful. [https://ico.org.uk/media/for-organisations/documents/1151/datasets-foi-
guidance.pdf].
Please also balance the time you may save by removing the need to reply to future requests
for this data, once it has been shared in public on WhatDoTheyKnow.

I have considered all the circumstances of the case. It appears that the provision of the dataset in pdf
format was an administrative oversight and I now attach an Excel version.

If you remain dissatisfied with the University’s handling of this request or with the outcome of this
review, you may raise the matter by way of appeal to the Information Commissioner who may be
contacted at: The Information Commissioner’s Office, Wycliffe House, Water Lane, Wilmslow,
Cheshire, SK9 5AF (https://ico.org.uk/)
