Dear Derek Reid,

REQUEST UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION (SCOTLAND) ACT 2002 (FOISA)

Thank you for your request dated 18 June under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002
(FOISA).

Your request

You asked for the total number of deaths from solely Covid-19 where there are no whatsoever
underlying heath conditions, for the current year of 2021, total number to date and number for each
month up to June 2021

Response to your request
All the information you have requested is available from National Records Scotland (NRS).
NRS publish data on deaths involving Covid-19 on a weekly and monthly basis. Data on deaths where
Covid-19 was the only cause of death (deaths with no pre-existing medical conditions) are published on
the monthly report. The last monthly report was published on 14 July 2021 and you can download the
data here: https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/files//statistics/covid19/covid-deaths-21-data-week-27.xlsx.
You can find these deaths, broken down by month, by seeing the ‘none’ category in Figure 7. The
deaths in this category are where Covid-19 was the only cause of death on the death certificate or
where subsequent conditions were caused by Covid-19. Data in this report covers months between
March 2020 and 30 June 2021.
For more context, you can read more about this data on page 11 of the report itself, available here:
https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/files//statistics/covid19/covid-deaths-21-report-week-27.pdf.
