Thank you for your request for information relating to cost and purpose of wooden gate instal ed at
Coundon Hal Park.
Your request and our responses are shown below:
1. Please provide the total costs incurred ( purchase & installation ) of the large heavy
wooden gate installed near to the lake in Coundon Hall Park - installed in 2019 or 2020 along
with some wire fencing. Please state the purpose of this gate?
We can advise that the gate referred to in the request was ordered with 85m of stock fencing.
Together, including supply and instal ation, the fence and gate cost £2,160.
We can advise that the back of the pond is intended to be closed off to everyone except authorised
personnel. The field gate should be locked at al times.
2. The gate is non-accessible for wheelchair and mobility scooter users. Was an impact
assessment carried out to determine the effects it would have on park users who are
disabled? If so, please publish a copy of it. The Equality Act 2010 clearly states that
physical barriers should not be erected that impact negatively on disabled people. This gate
does not form part of the perimeter of the park. If you believe that this gate is exempt from
the Equality Act 2010 please state why.
N/A. We can advise that the back of the pond is intended to be closed off to everyone except
authorised personnel. The field gate should be locked at al times.
The banks of the pond were planted with various species which due to excessive trampling have
barely survived. In order to protect the plants that remain and to restrict erosion and other damage
by people and dogs using the pond - but recognising that people and animals like to have access
to the water - an area of the pond has been left with unrestricted access. Both ends of the pond
have been fenced off however, along with the side of the pond that borders the care homes. The
field gate is intended for maintenance use only. Unfortunately the padlock and chain used to keep
the field gate locked have been removed several times but wil be replaced again as soon as
