Dear Mr Pickthall

Freedom of Information Act 2000 – Information Request

Thank you for your request for information under the Freedom of Information Act which was received
on 19 January 2021.  I can confirm that we hold part of the information you have requested.  You asked
the following questions, reproduced in bold below:

Please could you supply me with details of any safety netting procedures you currently
have in place for any patients who are not conveyed to hospital?

The Trust has an Appropriate Care Pathway policy and a Newly Qualified Paramedic working as
Lead Clinician procedure that outline the Trust expectations for safe discharge.  These are
attached.

Could you supply details of any information / leaflets you currently have for staff to give to
patients as part of the safety netting. E.g.: head injury advice cards or similar cards for
other conditions?

The Trust has a head injury advice card and diabetic information leaflet to supplement a non-
conveyance information leaflet that the crews complete.  These are held by our Stores section
who are fully occupied providing PPE to our frontline staff at present.  A request has been logged
with them for the literature and once this is to hand it will be forwarded on.

Where you do not have pre-written advice for non-conveyed patients how do you ensure
adequate safety netting is in place and is recorded?

We carry out annual audits that explores safe discharge.

Following the introduction of head injury advice cards in 2015, have you seen a reduction
in the number of adverse events following non-conveyance?

The Trust does not hold this information.

Any information is greatly received to assist with a university assignment.

The North East Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust is registered, and therefore
licensed to provide services, by the Care Quality Commission (Provider ID: RX601).

If you are not satisfied with the information we have provided, you can request an internal review within
40 working days of the date of this letter, which will be carried out by Mr Paul Aitken-Fell, who is the
Trust’s Consultant Paramedic and is someone not involved with your original request.

If you wish to follow this route, please contact xxxxxx.xxxxxxxx@xxxx.xxx.xx who will commence the
process on your behalf.

If you remain unhappy with the outcome of the review, you can ultimately complain to:
