Dear Mr. Alexander, Request under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA)
Thank you for your request of 21 December 2020 under the Freedom of Information
(Scotland) Act 2002 (FOISA).
You asked “Can you please tell me the total number of deaths registered in Scotland
annually for the period 2010 to 2020?”.
Response to your request
We publish a range of death statistics and so there are multiple data sources that
may be of interest.
For annual figures please see our reference tables, specifically section 6 which can
be found here List of Data Tables | National Records of Scotland
May I direct you to table 6.01 which contains a breakdown of
deaths by sex and cause between 2009 to 2019 https://www.nrscotland.gov.uk/files//statistics/vital-events-ref-tables/2019/vital-
Also the monthly Monthly Data on Births and Deaths Registered in Scotland |
National Records of Scotland (nrscotland.gov.uk)
and weekly tables Weekly Data on
Births and Deaths Registered in Scotland | National Records of Scotland
which outline deaths registered in Scotland.
Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to provide you with information if it is
already reasonably accessible to you.
