Ref. FOI 2020/12658
Dear N Mishta
Thank you for your email of 17 November 2020 requesting the following information:
“Would it be possible to have the breakdown of Carbon footprint of all the activities of
MOD and UK military?"
I am treating your correspondence as a request for information under the Freedom of
Information Act 2000 (FOIA).
A search for the information has now been completed within the Ministry of Defence
(MOD) and I can confirm that full and validated breakdown of carbon emissions produced
by all the activities of the MOD and UK military is not held. Annual MOD greenhouse gas
emissions (CO2e) from the defence estate and domestic business travel are reported in
line with Greening Government Commitments and published in the
Greening
Government Commitment Annual Reports and
MOD Annual Report and Accounts
Under Section 16 of the Act (Advice and Assistance) you may find it helpful to know the
Department recognises its contribution is vital in the UK’s response to bring greenhouse
gas emissions to net zero by 2050. As such, MOD has launched a Climate Change and
Sustainability Review. The Review is currently working to set the ambition, an emissions
baseline and establishing our route to net zero. The Review is programmed for
completion by the end of 2020.
If you wish to complain about the handling of your request, or the content of this
response, you can request an independent internal review by contacting the Information
Rights Compliance team, Ground Floor, MOD Main Building, Whitehall, SW1A 2HB (e-
mail
xxxxxxxxx@xxx.xxx.xx CI). Please note that any request for an internal review
should be made in writing within 40 working days of the date of this response.
If you remain dissatisfied following an internal review, you may raise your complaint
directly to the Information Commissioner under the provisions of Section 50 of the
