Dear Requester,

REQUEST FOR INFORMATION UNDER THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT

Thank you for your e-mail dated 9 July 2020 requesting information relating to sexual
harassment. Your request was for the following information:

1. Does the University have a policy for staff regarding sexual
harassment/misconduct between (a) staff and staff, (b) staff and students? If
so, please provide this, preferably a link to it or electronically. Such a policy
might concern definitions, how to report, processes, and so on.

The University of Cumbria covers these topics in the Bullying & Harassment Policy,
Disciplinary Policy, Grievance Policy and Code of Conduct (all attached).

2. What kind of training (e.g. online or in-person; voluntary or compulsory) is
provided to staff regarding sexual harassment/misconduct? Approximately
how many staff have undergone this training in the last year? [or last year that
has available data]

Staff complete mandatory training including Safeguarding and Unconscious Bias
however the University does not provide specific training relating to sexual
harassment/misconduct.

3. In the last year [or last year that has available data], how many cases of
alleged sexual harassment/misconduct by staff (staff-student or staff-staff)
have been reported to the university?

In the last year, from July 2019 – July 2020 there were no complaints received via the
formal student complaints procedure that related to allegations of sexual harassment/
misconduct by staff-student or staff-staff.

If you are unhappy with the way your request has been handled, you can ask for it to be
reviewed under the University’s Freedom of Information Complaints Procedure. To request a
review, please contact the Information Governance Manager at the above address or by e-
mail at xxxx@xxxxxxx.xx.xx.  Further information is enclosed with this letter. Please note,
during the Covid-19 pandemic all correspondence will be via the email address above.
